About The Position

This is a wonderful opportunity to make a direct impact in the lives of individuals with disabilities! CCAR Industries is hiring a permanent, full-time (40 hour per week) Direct Support Person (DSP) for our Client & Family Support Program. The program offers a wide range of options to help individuals live as independently as possible in the community. Supports can include, but aren’t limited to, assistance with money management, help with grocery shopping, advocacy, coordination/transportation to doctor’s appointments, help with paperwork associated with benefits, planning vacations, and fun recreational activities of the person’s choosing. Services are provided at times and in environments that are most convenient for individuals and their families.

Requirements

  • Possess a valid driver’s license with the ability to drive in the daytime or at night
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Provide proof of a high school diploma (via transcripts from an accredited school) or GED
  • Must pass a criminal background check, as required by the Healthcare Worker Background Check Act (225 ILCS 46), and a DCFS Child Abuse and Neglect background check
  • Successfully complete and maintain American Heart Association or American Red Cross CPR/First Aid certification
  • Successfully complete Direct Support Person training in accordance with IDHS requirements

Responsibilities

  • Support individuals in self-advocacy and making informed choices
  • Provide direct services to those served, such as transportation to community events, assistance with grocery shopping, transportation to medical appointments, support when completing housekeeping tasks, checking on home safety, assistance with personal hygiene, and providing emotional support
  • Transport individuals using agency-owned vehicles
  • Assist individuals in obtaining, counting, and documenting their money (as needed)
  • Complete house safety checks and communicate house safety concerns to your supervisor as they arise
  • Document all services/supports provided, record service hours, and document any additional concerns in accordance with agency policies
  • Treat the individuals served, co-workers, guardians, and all others in the workplace in a professional manner that reflects the agency’s Code of Conduct
  • Clock in and out for all shifts and enter requested time off using the MITC system
  • Show up on time and as scheduled for all assigned shifts and community appointments
  • Complete all required in-service material reviews
  • Attend all in-service meetings, trainings, and house meetings
  • Report abuse and neglect in accordance with OIG Rule 50
  • Abide by CCAR’s Code of Conduct, Confidentiality, and Corporate Compliance policies at all times
