About The Position

The Director of Financial Counseling directs and maintains an integrated, system-wide operation that supports securing payment and funding sources for self-pay and other referred accounts. The role ensures customers’ financial needs are met through programs offered across the organization and supports the organization’s goals for maximizing those programs. Funding sources and programs include RGHS financial assistance, grants, third-party insurers, COBRA, government programs, community-based programs, and entitlement programs.

This is a part-time, 20-hour position in Financial Services at the Riedman Campus in Rochester, New York. The schedule is Tuesday through Thursday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with a hybrid work arrangement.

Requirements

• Five years of increasingly responsible management experience in social work or revenue cycle; hospital-setting experience is preferred.
• Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
• Knowledge of and experience with automated systems.
• Demonstrated ability to improve and integrate workflows and processes.
• A four-year business or healthcare-related degree is preferred; an equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered.

Responsibilities

• Maintain thorough knowledge of programs and funding sources to maximize resources available to uninsured and underinsured patients.
• Maintain thorough knowledge of regulations and laws related to financial counseling, collections, and third-party reimbursements.
• Establish and maintain an effective system-wide Financial Counseling process, including account identification or referral, assessment and screening, an all-inclusive application process, qualification and adjudication, and personal customer service.
• Ensure referred accounts are processed accurately and in a timely manner, maximizing the effect of related programs.
• Direct and maintain effective Self Pay Collections and Customer Services processes in accordance with RGHS policies and government regulations.
• Report and track data necessary for financial reporting.
