Requirements

  • Must be able to read, write, understand, and follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Must demonstrate knowledge of food safety, sanitation, meal service, and proper food handling practices.
  • Must possess a current Food Handler Certification or obtain certification within the timeframe required by the community and applicable regulations.
  • Must possess the ability to organize work, provide directions to staff, and respond appropriately to changing operational needs.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays, and varying shifts as required by departmental operations.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous food service, dining services, hospitality, or related experience preferred.
  • Previous supervisory or lead experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assists the Dining Services Manager with the supervision and direction of Dietary Aides and other assigned Dining Services staff.
  • Ensure resident meals are prepared for service and served according to established meal schedules.
  • Ensure meal trays are accurate, appropriately presented, and appetizing prior to service.
  • Fills in as a host, server, expediter, or any other dining related position when needed.
  • Ensure proper opening and closing procedures are completed and established sanitation standards are maintained.
  • Conducts daily audits of assigned areas to monitor cleanliness, expired items, proper labeling and dating, temperature documentation, and appropriate stocking levels.
  • Assists the Dining Services Manager with special events, dinners, holiday functions, and other departmental activities.
  • Assists the Dining Services Manager with coordinating staff coverage to meet operational needs.
  • Provides meal service and performs other Dining Services functions as needed to maintain adequate coverage, including during employee absences or call-ins.
  • Identifies and promptly reports broken equipment, maintenance concerns, and other operational issues to the Dining Services Manager.
  • Assists with monthly inventory of serving utensils, and other assigned Dining Services supplies.
  • Ensure proper opening and closing procedures are followed.
  • Ensures resident menus are completed and returned, sorts of menu selections by mealtime, day, and floor, and appropriately files and distributes menu information to Dining Services staff.
  • Assists with onboarding, orientation, departmental training, and in-service education for Dining Services staff.
  • Promptly reports resident concerns, complaints, changes in eating habits, or other observed dining-related concerns to the appropriate manager or designated staff member.
  • Maintains work areas and performs assigned duties in accordance with applicable safety, sanitation, and OSHA standards.
  • Communicates effectively, professionally, and courteously, both verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrates the community hospitality promises toward residents, families, associates, and vendors.
  • Perform duties in accordance with department and community policies and procedures.
  • Assists with or conducts pre-shift meetings with scheduled staff to communicate menus, resident needs, service expectations, and other pertinent information.
