About The Position

The Baylor University Institute for Oral History (BUIOH) is seeking students with technical skills to support new technological endeavors and expand its online presence. This role involves processing digitization of open-reel and video tapes, including audio files and transcripts on the Baylor Digital Libraries online content management system (Quartex), and creating online curated content portals using the Oral History Metadata Synchronizer (OHMS). This position reports to the Collection Manager.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 10 hours per week

  • Ability to prepare raw WAV files for preservation
  • Ability to create access MP3s
  • Experience with FileMaker Pro
  • Ability to create physical file folders and scan documents
  • Ability to prepare analog media for digitization
  • Ability to update databases with progress
  • Ability to label and restock media
  • Ability to create metadata profiles
  • Ability to add MP3 files to online objects
  • Ability to update metadata of existing objects
  • Ability to update progress in FileMaker Pro
  • Respect confidentiality of materials
  • Do not discuss contents of transcripts with anyone outside the institute
  • Do not remove transcripts or recordings from offices without permission
  • Be on time for work
  • Submit required reports in a timely manner
  • Establish and follow a work schedule
  • Notify supervisor of absences in advance
  • Submit timesheets by noon on Sunday after the end of each pay period
  • Maintain a quiet, clean, and efficient work area
  • Keep work area free of trash, food, drink, or unnecessary personal items
  • Log out of computers when leaving
  • Refrain from cell phone calls, messaging, chatting, or personal internet browsing during work hours
  • Step into the hallway for personal calls
  • Keep personal conversations to a minimum
  • Speak softly to avoid disrupting others

Responsibilities

  • Accession new interviews into the collection
  • Prepare raw WAV files for preservation through concatenation into a preservation master
  • Create access MP3s for transcription and eventual upload to our online database (Quartex)
  • Enter biographical and interview data into interview process tracking database (FileMaker Pro)
  • Create physical file folders and scan deed of gift contracts
  • Aid in BUIOH digitization project
  • Prepare analog media for delivery to Ray I. Riley Digitization Center/return digitized materials to BUIOH
  • Update FileMaker Pro database with digitization progress
  • Label and restock analog media after digitization
  • Prepare transcript and audio files for upload to Quartex
  • Create metadata profiles for new interviews
  • Add access MP3 files to existing objects containing transcripts online
  • Update metadata of existing object/create metadata for audio recordings
  • Update FileMaker Pro with online access progress
  • Respect the confidentiality of the materials you handle
  • Arrive to work on time and submit required reports in a timely manner
  • Establish a work schedule and follow it
  • Complete and submit your online payroll time sheet for approval after your last work session of each two-week pay period
  • Maintain a quiet, clean, and efficient work area
