About The Position

The Movement for Black Lives (M4BL) is seeking a Digital Strategist Lead to develop and execute integrated digital narrative power plans. This role involves assessing, analyzing, and coordinating narrative strategies across various digital platforms including CRM, social media, email, and SMS. The Digital Strategist will be responsible for maintaining continuity across these platforms, providing analysis on intervention opportunities, and specifically managing and optimizing the email program to strengthen reach, segment lists, and engage supporters. The position is full-time (1.0 FTE) and operates within a five-day work week, with hours between 10:00 am and 6:00 pm ET. The role is remote, but requires approximately 25% travel per year for internal gatherings, convenings, and conferences. M4BL is an ecosystem of organizations and individuals dedicated to winning rights, control, and resources for Black people, guided by principles of abolition, anti-capitalism, and radical Black Queer Feminisms. The communications department aims to build narrative power for the Vision for Black Lives Policy Platform, centering the experiences of those most impacted by oppression.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years of experience in digital strategy, preferably at a values-based organization, and coalition formation
  • Expert knowledge of all major social media platforms and SMS, including publishing and analytics software (e.g., Sprout Social, HootSuite, Bit.ly)
  • Intermediate familiarity with project management software, platforms and tools such as Formstack, Asana, virtual meeting platforms, Canva (or equivalent graphic making software and application), Every Action (or equivalent CRM)
  • Proficiency in MS Office and Google Suite
  • Experience in membership organizing, network or ecosystem development
  • Proficiency in project planning and project management
  • Proficiency in operations and logistic planning
  • Commitment to advancing racial justice and liberation for Black communities
  • Demonstrated alignment with the values and principles of the Movement for Black Lives, including abolition, anti-capitalism, and radical Black Queer Feminisms
  • Deep commitment to the organization's mission, vision, and values, including a passion for social change and community empowerment
  • Integrity and ethical conduct in all aspects of leadership and decision-making
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to articulate the organization's mission, engage stakeholders, and build relationships
  • Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate with diverse individuals and teams

Responsibilities

  • Strategize and execute high-impact, creative digital tactics that build narrative power, meet goals to reach Black audiences, and create visibility for all M4BL issues
  • Conduct cross-table and department meetings (e.g., Policy) and coordinate and strategize with teams about narrative power opportunities
  • Lead strategy development for email program
  • Lead digital event coordination from the digital team’s side in coordination with other teams and departments
  • Provide capacity-building support to members by providing regular email trainings for the ecosystem
  • Share in facilitation and note-taking for the weekly digital team meeting
  • Build relationships and strengthen partnerships with member organizations, partners, and community members to support priorities. (This can look like maintaining and growing our working relationships with the labor movement)
  • Support in the development and management of vendor relationships
  • Lead on social media program, utilizing social management platform and calendar to ensure content is posted in a timely manner
  • Manage the digital content calendar
  • Supports the development and strengthening of the voice and tone of M4BL’s online persona
  • Contribute and support as a reviewer for outgoing digital content
