  • Content creation skills, including sharp copywriting, writing designer briefs, developing video storyboards, and shooting and editing compelling content on a phone or camera.
  • Strong editorial judgment, including knowing which stories matter, when to post, and when to hold back.
  • Ability to translate technical or research-heavy topics into accessible, engaging stories.
  • Ability to work quickly without sacrificing quality or accuracy.
  • Genuine interest in climate, sustainability, and making cities more resilient and livable.
  • Strong cross-functional communication skills and comfort with ambiguity, multi-partner approvals, and a growing program.
  • Strong organization skills, ability to work independently, and ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Comfort with social publishing, analytics tools, and project management systems.
  • Ability to work in the United States; the Exchange does not currently have visa-sponsoring capabilities.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with nonprofit, higher education, climate, science, or human-centered design organizations or brands.
  • Experience with video editing tools and native platform editors.

Responsibilities

  • Create original short-form videos, graphics, carousels, and written content about programs, fellows, partner events, and progress around the Governors Island climate campus.
  • Develop timely, high-impact content for announcements, program launches, research findings, and events such as Climate Week NYC.
  • Own the social content calendar and posting cadence on Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube, balancing proactive storytelling with announcement-driven content and adapting to new platforms as the organization grows.
  • Identify and build relationships with influencers and creators in climate, finance, and urban policy to extend the reach of the organization’s content.
  • Source and showcase authentic stories from partners, fellows, students, and community members.
  • Collaborate with the communications director, events associate, program leads, and partner institutions to identify stories and maintain consistency with brand standards.
  • Contribute to the monthly newsletter, blog, and website content, and produce press-ready assets such as photos, b-roll, and fact sheets in coordination with PR efforts.
  • Capture and repurpose event content to reach larger audiences.
  • Build social listening practices, monitor platform trends, and pitch content ideas and campaigns to leadership.
  • Manage content through internal and partner approvals, develop scalable production workflows, track performance, and clearly report learnings.
