About The Position

Tisch Library supports Tufts’ School of Arts & Sciences and the School of Engineering, providing services and resources to assist members of the Tufts community in their teaching, learning, and research. Tisch Library provides collections, expertise, and technology-rich environments to support the creation and dissemination of scholarship. The Research & Instruction Department works with staff, students, and faculty to incorporate information resources into the curriculum; designs course-based and open workshops; provides research consultation services; and develops new services and programs to support teaching, learning, and scholarship at Tufts. The Digital Design Studio (DDS) provides facilities and support to students, faculty, and staff working with digital media and multimedia, including large-format and 3D printing.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • At least 2 years’ experience in the use of various digital media technology in an educational setting
  • Demonstrated project management experience
  • Strong working knowledge of video, audio and design applications in Adobe Creative Cloud, with particular strength in visual design
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with students, faculty, and staff in a diverse environment.
  • A commitment to imaginative and creative user services grounded in equity.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's Degree or graduate certificate in relevant discipline
  • Familiarity with assessment in an educational context.
  • Experience with digital humanities tools and applications.

Responsibilities

  • Supports students and faculty on the design and creation of multimodal scholarship and creative assessment strategies.
  • Supports digital media practices and critical design and media literacies in a variety of formats, including but not limited to visual design, video, audio, zines, 3d printing, and laser engraving through consultations, instruction, workshops, outreach, and collaborative initiatives.
  • Reports to the Head of the Digital Design Studio (DDS) and plays a role in developing initiatives and services supported by the DDS.
  • Identifies areas of collaboration with colleagues related to digital pedagogy and critical and ethical approaches to digital scholarship as a member of the Digital Scholarship Department.
  • Provide consultation and expertise to students and faculty on the design and creation of digital media and its integration into scholarly contexts.
  • Act as liaison between curricular projects and DDS services.
  • Propose, develop, and assess efforts to teach media literacy through course collaborations, student-led workshops, and co-curricular activities.
  • Work with the Studio Manager to develop training and teaching opportunities for student workers.
  • Contribute to conversations on use of the studio space and developing and promoting new services aligned with the mission of the DDS and the Digital Scholarship department.
  • Monitor and communicate developments in technology to support DDS goals.
  • Serve on department, library, and university teams or working groups as appropriate.
