The Digital Learning Specialist (DLS) promotes the use of technologies to support student achievement in the K-12 classroom. This role provides leadership, professional development, and instructional support to all instructional and administrative staff. The DLS collaborates with teachers and other instructional staff to develop curriculum materials and lesson plans that integrate technology, models the integration of technology and creation in all curriculum areas, and facilitates school participation in the district's digital learning initiative. Additionally, the DLS develops and conducts professional development, collaborates with teachers on lesson planning and feedback, and works with the school library media coordinator to enhance learning through instructional resources. The specialist follows a plan for professional development, implements best practices related to the digital learning initiative, and assists teachers in selecting and evaluating resources. Adherence to copyright, digital citizenship, and ethical use of resources is expected. The DLS also provides leadership for the School Improvement Plan and evaluates the effectiveness of the digital learning initiative, serving as a liaison between the school and district digital learning staff.
