About The Position

WMTV 15 News is seeking a Digital Content Creator to expand its digital presence and invest in the future of local journalism. This is a digital-first role focused on producing original video content for social media platforms and the website, with broadcast as a secondary destination. The role is part of a dedicated digital team with an established workflow, content strategy, and mentorship structure. The audience in Madison is young, educated, and digitally engaged, presenting an opportunity to build meaningful content.

Requirements

  • Genuine platform fluency — understanding what performs on Instagram Reels, TikTok, YouTube Shorts, and Facebook Video, and ability to explain why.
  • Self-shooting and editing skills — comfortable on both mobile and traditional camera gear.
  • Speed and efficiency — ability to ideate, shoot, edit, and publish in hours, not days.
  • Audience instincts — thinking about the viewer/scroller before the anchor toss.
  • Ability to adapt digital content for broadcast when needed.
  • Comfort working within an established editorial team structure and content approval workflow.
  • A collaborative spirit — working alongside a dedicated digital team, not in isolation.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to drive a company vehicle.
  • Must be able to carry 35+ pounds of gear.
  • Experienced in shooting and editing unique content.

Nice To Haves

  • A journalism-related degree is preferred, but not required.
  • Familiarity with ENPS, Arc, Edius, Syncbak and Chartbeat is a plus, but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Conceive, shoot, edit, and publish original short-form video content for Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, and the website.
  • Lead with social and digital storytelling, then adapt content for broadcast use.
  • Produce 3–5 social-first video pieces per week that are platform-native and audience-driven.
  • Identify stories that the Wisconsin audience needs to know and adapt them for digital.
  • Collaborate daily with WMTV's digital content team (dayside and nightside digital producers) within an established workflow.
  • Write digital headlines, captions, and copy optimized for web and social engagement.
  • Cover breaking news and community stories with a digital-first lens.
  • Understand and apply basic SEO principles to digital content.
  • Track performance metrics and use data to inform future content decisions.
  • Contribute to broadcast newscasts, building for digital first.

  • Compliance with applicable state and local laws governing nondiscrimination in employment.
  • Prohibition of any form of workplace harassment based on race, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, national origin, age, genetic information, disability, or veteran status.
