About The Position

This co-op position is for a current Mount St. Joseph University student eager to develop relevant and interesting stories to attract and engage outside audiences. The role will also assist with website updates as needed. Written content will be shared on web and social channels. This role is responsible for providing interesting content to grow the Mount’s reach, enhance its reputation, and gain a competitive edge in the marketplace. The award-winning Marketing team, led by a former Brand President from Procter & Gamble, is committed to learning, growing, and innovating, and seeks a student who shares this drive. The co-op can expect mentorship and coaching from the Director and the Vice President of Marketing & Communications, with a focus on growing individual capabilities.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled student at Mount St. Joseph University.
  • Must have completed prerequisites for co-op eligibility.
  • Ability to work on own initiative, independently, and to deadlines.
  • Well organized, punctual, and reliable.
  • The ability to communicate sensitively and tactfully, both orally and in writing, with individuals at all levels within the University.
  • Eagerness to develop their writing skills to gain experience in a professional atmosphere.
  • News writing understanding and story structure.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Flexibility in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with AP StyleGuide is a plus, but not required.
  • Has experience using a content management system (CMS) is a plus but not required, for example, Wordpress, Squarespace, etc.

Responsibilities

  • News story writing with headlines, interesting leads to hook readers, followed by most important information to supporting details.
  • Feature article understanding to present some stories in a narrative storytelling fashion.
  • Writing news posts as assigned about various happenings around campus.
  • Finding story leads on campus.
  • Submitting stories in the back-end of the website to be published on the homepage and news section.
  • Maintaining a professional and positive demeanor when communicating across campus.
  • Assisting with proofreading print materials.
  • Executing webpage edits to www.msj.edu.
  • Adding/removing bio pages for staff members in the directory.
