About The Position

Reporting to Vice President, Communications, the Digital Communications Coordinator helps shape and manage digital content and membership/audience engagement across multiple channels, including web, enewsletters, social media, and design templates. This role is ideal for a communications professional who is curious, detail-oriented, and committed to excellence. The coordinator will help identify, develop, and publish content that advances WICHE’s mission as a nonpartisan regional higher education compact and supports the organization’s communications strategy. This full-time role will support digital communications across two teams: 50% for WICHE Communications and 50% for the State Authorization Network (SAN). This position is well suited for an early-career professional or someone returning to the field who is eager to contribute their skills and experience. The successful candidate requires strong editorial instincts and an audience-centered approach that drives timely and relevant engagement. The coordinator will write and edit content, maintain editorial and branding standards, and collaborate with key staff to translate complex and nuanced topics into clear, accessible, and balanced communications and marketing messages and other assets.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in communication, journalism, marketing, or a related field, or an equivalent relevant work experience or internship experience.
  • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills with excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Sound editorial judgment and ability to prioritize and present content in a compelling way across different communication channels.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.

Nice To Haves

  • Two to five years of experience in digital communications, journalism, marketing, membership management, or a related work/field.
  • Familiarity with website content management systems like WordPress, Drupal, and/or SharePoint.
  • Experience with an email marketing tool and/or customer relationship management (CRM) system like Salesforce.
  • Experience with template and design tools like Canva, InDesign, etc.
  • Previous experience managing a digital communication channel (blog, intranet, email platform, social media channels) a plus.
  • Previous experience related to managing outreach activities for a membership organization.

Responsibilities

  • Write, edit, and proofread communications to ensure clarity, consistency, and adherence to style guidelines.
  • Ensure accuracy and consistency across all communications.
  • Curate and prioritize content for a wide variety of digital communications channels, including the members-only platforms, enewsletter, web, social media, as well as online publications, reports, event support, and news releases.
  • Exercise careful editorial judgment to ensure content is accurate and aligned with the organization’s mission, vision, and strategic priorities.
  • Collaborate with WICHE Communications staff and vendors to engage key stakeholders (policymakers, chief academic officers, students and their families, admissions counselors, etc.) by developing content and leveraging digital communications channels to increase awareness and usage of WICHE’s programs and services, publications, events, and other key initiatives.
  • Collaborate with State Authorization Network (SAN) staff to develop communications, resources, and marketing materials that support membership recruitment and engagement goals. This includes promoting membership campaigns, webinars, networking opportunities, and other engagement activities to increase participation and value.
  • Coordinate content used in email communications for external and internal audiences.
  • Create and distribute emails campaigns to promote reports, research publications, events, etc.
  • Monitor email performance metrics to improve engagement and effectiveness.
  • Create and coordinate social media content across WICHE’s platforms.
  • Collaborate with staff to identify timely and engaging content opportunities.
  • Monitor social media and relevant news topics to support organizational awareness and engagement.
  • Update and maintain website content.
  • Develop and update web content that is clear, user-friendly, and adheres to branding and style guidelines.
  • Help ensure that website content meets accessibility standards (alternative text for images, appropriate heading structures, color use, etc.).
  • Facilitate ongoing meetings with select staff to discuss and follow web content tips and trainings.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to WICHE’s vision, mission, and strategic priorities.
  • Maintain collaborative and professional working relationships within WICHE and with external partners.
  • Coordinate and deliver marketing and communications deliverables with a strong commitment to deadlines, demonstrating an understanding of message urgency, sequencing, and the cadence needed to maximize stakeholder engagement.
  • Manage multiple priorities with strong attention to detail, accuracy, and organization.
  • Seek opportunities to grow professionally through trainings, workshops, and conferences.
