About The Position

WVIA serves 22 counties across Northeastern and Central Pennsylvania, creating journalism, programming and educational resources that make a difference in the communities we call home. WVIA has an outstanding full-time opportunity on its news team, reporting to the Managing Editor. The Digital Audience Editor ensures WVIA News journalism reaches the audience it's meant for. This role owns the daily digital presentation and distribution of newsroom content across WVIA.org, newsletters, and social media - using editorial judgment and audience data to decide how stories are prioritized, packaged, and promoted. It's a key link between the News and Audience teams, turning strong journalism into strong digital experiences.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, digital media, or related field - or equivalent experience.
3–5 years in journalism, digital publishing, or audience engagement.
Strong writing, editing, and headline skills; command of AP style.
CMS experience (any platform) and the ability to quickly learn new tools.
A track record of using story placement, headlines, and imagery to drive audience engagement.
Newsletter production experience - selection, ordering, copywriting.
Experience publishing across major social platforms, with platform-specific instincts.
Familiarity with audience analytics (Google Analytics or similar) to inform editorial decisions.
Working knowledge of SEO as applied to journalism.
Strong collaborator who can balance editorial priorities, audience needs, and deadlines.
Self-starter, comfortable in a fast-paced newsroom - including occasional extended hours for breaking news.

Nice To Haves

Photoshop skills (logos, photo packages, promos).
A sharp eye for typography.
Basic HTML/CSS.

Responsibilities

Curate and prioritize WVIA News content across the homepage and section pages, with editorial direction from the Managing Editor - shaping placement, headlines, summaries, and imagery throughout the news cycle and during breaking news.
Curate and produce editorial newsletters: story selection, order, headlines, and promotional copy.
Decide how and when stories go out on social media, adapting copy and visuals per platform, in collaboration with the Social Media Coordinator.
Use audience data (web, newsletter, social) to sharpen presentation and distribution, and share insights with the newsroom.
Partner with reporters and editors early in the editorial process on headlines, imagery, SEO, and social strategy.
Stay ahead of digital platforms, audience trends, and publishing best practices; apply SEO principles to boost discoverability.
Maintain editorial accuracy and consistency across all digital platforms.
