About The Position

The Clinical Dietitian is an integral member of the interdisciplinary health professional team and is responsible for the nutrition care, disease management and education of patients. The Dietitian initiates a cost effective nutrition therapy comprised of patient assessment, the development and implementation of a patient-centered, goal-focused care plan, with ongoing evaluation. Nutrition care plans are outcome-focused, incorporate evidence based best practice, are formulated to optimize both clinical and fiscal outcomes, and emphasize health promotion and disease prevention. The Clinical Dietitian is responsible for the continuum of care of patients with effective, evidence based strategies to self manage disease thereby decreasing the risk associated complications and hospital admissions. As part of patient care, the Clinical Dietitian is responsible for educating patients/caregivers about their overall disease and especially how it relates to nutritional management. The Clinical Dietitian is part of and promotes a health care team approach to patient care. The Dietitian will provide health assessment, interventions and appropriate follow up in accordance with acts, regulations, policies, standards, guidelines, mission and objectives of the Registered Dietitians of Canada, the Nova Scotia Dietetic Association, the Department of Health and Wellness - Province of Nova Scotia and the Nova Scotia Health.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Human Nutrition at a recognized University required
  • Completion of Dietetic internship (a 1 year integrated or post graduate program) required
  • Licensure by Nova Scotia Regulator of Dietetics required
  • Access to reliable transportation for travel for work

Nice To Haves

  • Current Membership in Dietitians of Canada preferred
  • Two years of related experience in an adult health care facility preferred
  • Specialty Practice Certification such as Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) considered an asset
  • Competencies in other languages an asset; French preferred
