About The Position

Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children is seeking for a Dietitian, Specialist to provide evidence-based medical nutrition therapy to patients as part of the Clinical Nutrition team. Works primarily with patient populations within their area of expertise, supported by board certification in a nutrition specialty.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited university or college and coursework accredited or approved by the Commission or Accreditation of Dietetics Education (CADE) of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND).
  • Registration with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR);
  • Must maintain Dietitian/Nutritionist license with the Florida Department of Health;
  • Must hold one of the following specialty certifications: Any of the eight different specialties offered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR); Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES) from the National Certification Board for Diabetes Educators; Certified Nutrition Support Clinician (CNSC) from the National Board of Nutrition Support Certification; Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC) from the Academy of Lactation Policy and Practice; International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) from the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners
  • One (1) years clinical experience as a Registered Dietitian.

Responsibilities

  • Writes orders per policy.
  • Counsels patients and/or significant others on nutritional principles, dietary plans, and food selections, considering cultural, religious, and ethnic requests/preferences.
  • Develops, implements, and documents nutritional care plans based on assessment of patient nutritional needs considering nutrition status and disease state requirements.
  • Demonstrates the necessary competency level to assess patient’s nutritional requirements and specific needs over the lifespan.
  • Demonstrates evidenced-based knowledge of medical nutrition therapy for appropriate nutrition-related care of patients.
  • Communicates appropriate dietary history and nutritional care data through the medical record documentation system. Participates in physician and health care team interdisciplinary rounds, as applicable.
  • Provides in-services/training to staff in area of nutrition specialty, as needed.
  • Participates in clinical Process Improvement activities, as assigned.
  • Reviews current scientific findings to update menus, hospital formulary, diet manual, and standards of care for specific patient populations, as assigned.
  • The Specialty Dietitian is expected to adhere to Orlando Health policies, procedures, guidelines, mission and vision statements, and commitment to excellence.
  • Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards.
  • Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
