About The Position

The Dietetic Technician I provides age appropriate nutrition care and is responsible for sterile preparation and unit dose forms of breastmilk and formula pursuant to physicians orders within the hospital centralized preparation lab. Assists with food service line for specialty patients, calculates and documents calorie counts, plans nourishments under supervision of Registered Dietitian (RD), screens patient at nutritional risk, and provides education and monitoring for low nutritional risk patients.

Requirements

  • Must fulfill one of the following within 6 months of hire: 1) Associate degree in Dietetics or Nutrition related field from an accredited college or university with the required clinical hours to be eligible to take the DTR exam; or 2) undergraduate or Graduate degree in Dietetics or Nutrition related field with eligibility to take the DTR exam.
  • Successful completion of registration exam to become a Dietetic Technician, Registered (DTR) within 6 months of hire.
  • Knowledge of and ability to provide appropriate family-centered patient care based upon age appropriateness and cultural needs.
  • Excellent customer satisfaction skills; care with sensitivity and respect.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully provide/promote safe care within the parameters of licensure and regulatory requirements, practice requirements and hospital systems.
  • Ability to prioritize and complete duties in a timely and organized manner.
  • Ability to set goals and evaluate results in accordance with the highest standards.
  • Promote teamwork to achieve CHOC's mission.
  • Registered Dietetic Technician within 6 months of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • One (1) year DTR experience in acute-care hospital setting.
  • Experience with human milk handling and/or infant/enteral formula preparation.
  • Knowledge of CBORD, Nutritionist Pro, Timeless Medical, or other nutritional software systems.
  • Registered Dietetic Technician upon hire.
