About The Position

This is a trainee position with the end goal of preparing the dietetic intern to possess competent skills to provide Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) and apply the nutrition care process to patient care. The dietetic intern works under the supervision of a University Hospitals Dietetic Internship Program preceptor at all times to meet the objectives of the dietetic internship program. The intern will develop competent skills to evaluate and recommend nutrition needs based on specific objective/subjective information for a clinical nutrition assessment. Dietetic interns complete rotations focused in clinical nutrition, community nutrition, and foodservice nutrition.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree of Science Degree in Nutrition.
  • Completion of an ACEND (Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics) accredited Didactic Program in Dietetics academic program, which grants at least a bachelor’s degree.
  • Participate in the national computerized match process, which is facilitated through D&D Digital, and receive one of five dietetic intern positions with the ACEND-accredited University Hospitals Dietetic Internship Program.
  • Potential to develop competent skills to evaluate and recommend nutrition needs based on the specific combined objective/subjective information for a clinical nutrition assessment.
  • Analytical skills to assess patient’s condition & provide appropriate interventions under the supervision of a dietetic internship program preceptor.
  • Appropriate & effective communication/interpersonal skills to effectively work with patients, families, physicians and other health care professionals.
  • Complete rotations focused in the following areas: clinical nutrition, community nutrition, and foodservice nutrition.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Complies with all policies and standards.
  • Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.
