About The Position

Reporting directly to the Nutrition Services Supervisor, responsible for all aspects of patient and retail meal service. This includes setup and stocking of workstations, food preparation, assembly, and service of patient and retail meals. Attention to special requirements for modified and restricted diets for patient meals is crucial. The role involves delivery of patient trays and supplies to patient care areas, and retrieval of trays for return to the kitchen. Responsibilities also include cleaning and sanitation of the work area, equipment, dishes, utensils, pots, and pans, as well as the use of commercial kitchen equipment. A strong understanding and application of safe food handling practices are essential, along with maintaining safety and sanitation standards of the work area and communicating effectively. The position requires providing excellent patient and family-centered care and service.

Requirements

  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and communicate effectively in English.
  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn proper lifting techniques and safety precautions.
  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn proper use and storage of potentially hazardous cleaning products.
  • Strong customer service focus.
  • Must be able to prioritize and multi-task and stay focused in a busy environment.

Nice To Haves

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Food service experience.

Responsibilities

  • Receives department deliveries from vendors, separates products, and distributes to appropriate storage areas.
  • Stores product according to established standards to ensure food safety.
  • Rotates stock and ensures proper FIFO procedures are followed.
  • Monitors expiration dates and disposes of outdated product.
  • Performs routine and special cleaning assignments, including cleaning equipment, storage areas, shelving, coolers, kitchen floors, and walls.
  • Collects trash from work areas and transports to collection bins for removal.
  • Transports food carts within the department, to patient care areas, or other assigned locations.
  • Assembles and delivers floor stock.
  • Assists with patient meal service functions.
  • Maintains, cleans, and sanitizes equipment, kitchen areas, and galleys/pantries on patient units according to established standards for safety and sanitation.
  • Collects and disposes of trash in the work area.
  • Applies principles of safe food handling during storage, assembly, production, and service.
  • Records food and equipment temperatures as required.
  • Properly labels and dates products.
  • Communicates effectively within the department and with all hospital departments, patients, and staff.
  • Actively participates in safety initiatives and risk mitigating measures where appropriate and completes all position and unit safety related competencies and requirements on a timely basis.
