Prepares food in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations, with established policies and procedures. The position is in the Food Services Department and reports to the Dietary Manager or Administrator/Executive Director. The cook is responsible for reviewing menus, preparing meals, working with the Dietitian/Director of Food Services, and ensuring food procedures are followed. Administrative duties include completing necessary forms and reports. The role also involves assisting in establishing the food service production line, processing diet changes, preparing appetizing and palatable meals, serving meals on time with standardized portion control, preparing bedtime snacks, and preparing substitute foods. Daily cleaning duties, food preparation for special events, and maintaining adequate stock levels of food and supplies are also key responsibilities. The position requires treating residents with dignity and respect, promoting resident rights, adhering to facility policies and procedures, complying with business conduct standards and regulations, following safety and hygiene measures, maintaining confidentiality of protected health information, reporting noncompliance and retaliation, reporting allegations of abuse or neglect, protecting residents from abuse, reporting occupational exposures, participating in emergency drills, fulfilling responsibilities during emergency plan activation, and reporting work-related injuries. The cook must also follow infection control policies, complete assigned training, maintain food storage areas, ensure equipment and supplies are clean and maintained, assist in inventorying and storing food/supplies, ensure food and supplies for the next meal are available, and recommend equipment and supply needs.
