About The Position

Catholic Charities of Baltimore, Caritas House is seeking a Dietary Assistant to support patients within a healthcare facility in maintaining a healthy diet. This role involves assisting with food service assembly, preparing dishes according to the designated menu, and upholding health and sanitation standards. Caritas House is a senior community offering services to help residents remain independent and safe, with a dining program providing three meals a day and healthy snack options. The Dietary Assistant will help prepare dining areas for meals, ensure residents' needs are met during mealtimes, and has opportunities to learn food safety and preparation techniques.

Requirements

  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of procedures that adhere to Serve Safe standards.
  • One (1) year experience in institutional healthcare service.
  • Serve-safe certified or become certified within 6 months of employment.
  • Demonstrate accountability by consistently being punctual and maintaining reliable attendance.
  • Exhibit strong interpersonal skills with a courteous and professional demeanor towards staff, clients, and visitors.
  • Maintain a safe environment for patients and co-workers by following established safety protocols and promptly addressing hazards.
  • Possess thorough knowledge of safety hazards and ensure the proper use of cleaning and sanitizing solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, serve, and manage meal distribution according to residents’ dietary needs.
  • Ensure proper food handling and sanitation while assisting with mealtime requirements.
  • Report any discrepancies or issues related to food temperature to the Dining Services Supervisor.
  • Adhere to dietary restrictions and set up dining areas for proficient service.
  • Finalize food temperature logs, ensuring compliance with all safety standards.
  • Follow all health and safety protocols to maintain a clean and sanitary environment, including proper handwashing, personal hygiene, and correct utilization of PPE.
  • Follow established cleaning procedures to prevent cross-contamination and ensure proper storage and handling of food items.
  • Implement food safety protocols, such as proper temperature control, frequent hand washing, and using gloves when necessary.
  • Certify that food preparation areas, dishwashing areas, food delivery stations, and food storage areas are kept clean, well-organized, and properly arranged.
  • Foster a positive and cooperative working relationship with all staff.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
