About The Position

The Dietary Aide supports food service in the health center, providing meals and requested items to residents courteously and ensuring that orders align with physicians’ diet orders. The role includes preparing specified foods, serving and transporting food, setting up and clearing dining areas, maintaining workstations and equipment, and following applicable sanitation and dietary standards.

The successful candidate communicates effectively, follows instructions, performs simple arithmetic, and works cooperatively with residents, families, visitors, supervisors, and peers. Empathy for the elderly is required. Previous nursing home food-service experience is preferred but not required.

Requirements

• Ability to understand and follow instructions in English.
• Ability to communicate effectively.
• Ability to perform simple arithmetic and understand measurements and conversions.
• Ability to plan, organize, and set up trays and plates according to diet orders, and interpret specifications and standards.
• Ability to work in close cooperation with residents, guests, visitors, families, supervisors, and peers.
• Empathy for the elderly.

Nice To Haves

• Previous experience in nursing home food service is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Prepare therapeutic desserts and salads as required.
• Serve meals in health center pantries.
• Set up tables in health center dining rooms and break them down after meals.
• Transport hot and cold foods to and from health center pantries.
• Transport required non-food items to and from health center pantries.
• Wash silverware, glassware, and china in pantry dish machines according to regulations.
• Provide health center snacks and supplements according to diet orders.
• Maintain stock and sanitation levels in dining-room coffee and juice machines.
• Set tables and maintain workstations in proper order.
• Take orders and provide service and requested items graciously and courteously.
• Clear dishes from tables during and after meal service.
• Answer pertinent questions about menu items.
• Ensure orders match physicians’ diet orders.
