About The Position

Extendicare is hiring casual Dietary Aides for their new home, Forest Trail, in Peterborough, ON, opening in Q4 2026. As a valued member of the culinary team, you will assist with plating and serving meals, and be responsible for cleaning serving areas and equipment, all while following established policies and procedures. This position starts as casual in the Peterborough LTC home and will transition to full-time/part-time at the new Forest Trail LTC home in Fall 2026. Available opportunities include Part-Time with Day/Evening shifts. The role requires availability to work Weekends and Holidays.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Higher Academic Certification
  • Valid Food Handlers Certificate
  • Must meet the physical requirements of the position (standing for long periods of time, moderate to heavy lifting, fast paced environment).
  • Ability to read and write in English as well as to understand simple verbal and written instructions in English.
  • Ability to work safely, following established safety practices and procedures.
  • Successful candidate must be available to work, days, evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays.

Nice To Haves

  • Degree/ Diploma in nutrition or Food Service Program is an asset.
  • Previous dietary skills, knowledge, and experience with institutional, health care, restaurant, or hospitality food service environments is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Serves food to residents according to individual diets and preferences.
  • Observes time limits for meal serving.
  • Maintains foods at proper serving temperature.
  • Assists Cooks to clean and prepare such uncooked food as salads, vegetables, and fruits.
  • Follows basic instructions in preparing such simple foods as breakfast items, basic desserts, and garnishes.
  • Clears plates and trays, loads, and operates dishwasher.
  • Cleans pots, pans, and cooking utensils as per procedure.
  • Participates in proper storage and labeling of dietary supplies and food, including leftovers.
  • Adheres to established departmental policies, procedures regarding quality assurance, fire, safety, environment, and infection control.
  • Assembles nourishment carts.
  • Stocks unit kitchenettes.
  • Participates in facility meetings as assigned.
  • Attends in-service education programs.
  • Other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
