About The Position

The Dietary Aide provides support to the set up, preparation, serving and clean up associated with all meal services in the Home. Reporting to the Nutrition Manager, this role is crucial in ensuring residents receive timely and well-prepared meals in a professional and courteous manner. The position involves assisting with various food preparation tasks, table setting and clearing, dishwashing, maintaining cleanliness of the kitchen and dining areas, and supporting special events. Additionally, the Dietary Aide will assist in training new employees, adhere to health and safety regulations, and comply with provincial standards and company policies. This role requires a commitment to resident rights, participation in quality improvement initiatives, and working with vulnerable adults. Upholding organizational values and completing assigned duties are also key aspects of the position.

Requirements

  • Must possess a Food Handler's Certificate or willing to obtain one.
  • Demonstrates excellent customer service skills.
  • Must be physically able to lift and transfer heavy, hot items and stand/walk for majority of shift.
  • Ability to read, write, and follow instructions in English (other languages an asset).
  • Must provide a complete and current (within six months) Vulnerable Sector Check (including a Criminal Background Check) or be willing to obtain one.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in the food service industry.
  • Previous experience working with seniors.
  • Other languages are an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Serve meals to residents and guests in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Assist in the set up and preparation for service of various items such as beverages, salads, desserts, etc.
  • Set and clear dining tables and deliver tray service as required.
  • Assist with cleaning of dishware, cutlery at the conclusion of each seating as required.
  • Assist with maintaining the cleanliness of kitchen and dining area as required.
  • Assist with catering, and actively participate in special occasions and theme events.
  • Assist in the orientation and training of new dietary employees.
  • Follow and comply with health and safety legislation and departmental safe job procedures.
  • Comply with all provincial regulations and established department policies and procedures.
  • Be aware of the Resident Rights & Responsibilities and endeavor to respect and promote it.
  • Attend in-service training as required in order to better serve the needs of the residents.
  • Attend staff meetings as required to be aware of changes in Residence that have taken place.
  • Participate in the Quality Improvement Program.
  • Work in a position of trust with vulnerable adults (residents).
  • Uphold and promote the organization's values and philosophy relating particularly to ethics, morality, and integrity as set out in the Code of Conduct.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.
