About The Position

The Diet Clerk position is a part-time role within the Food and Nutrition Department at AMC Burlington. This role is responsible for managing patient dietary information, including diet orders, menu selections, and special requests. The Diet Clerk plays a crucial part in ensuring patients receive appropriate nutrition according to their prescribed diets and physician orders. This position involves direct patient interaction, administrative tasks, and operational support within the department.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate.
  • Good customer service and communication skills.
  • Good organizational and time management skills.
  • Basic computer skills in the use of Microsoft Office (Excel, and Word) or similar products.
  • Must be able to walk and stand the majority of the workday.
  • Must be able to lift up to 20 lbs. occasionally.
  • Must have functional speech, vision, hearing, and the ability to read, write, and perform basic math.
  • May be required to enter isolation rooms, therefore personal protective equipment must be worn as necessary.
  • Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.

Nice To Haves

  • Occasional AM shifts.
  • Every other weekend and rotating holidays.

Responsibilities

  • Receives and processes diet changes throughout the day, including diet orders, patient admissions, cancellations, transfers, special physician or dietitian orders (e.g., tube feedings, supplements), and requests for late trays and diet instructions.
  • Reviews menus for completeness and accuracy, referring any issues to the Dietitian.
  • Answers the room service phone and takes meal selections from patients based on their current diet order.
  • Prints tube feeding and nourishment labels, verifying their accuracy.
  • Maintains department files.
  • Enters all supplements, tube feedings, snacks, patient food allergies, and patient preferences into the card file.
  • Accurately performs duties and answers questions regarding dietary procedures, nutrition services procedures, write-ins, foods allowed on modified diets, guest tray procedures, and isolation procedures.
  • Prepares food production reports.
  • Prints reports for missed meals and tray counts.
  • Manages inventory and orders supplies/forms, or communicates supply needs to the Manager, Supervisor, or Lead.
  • Operates a cash register and performs cash handling functions.
