Mechanics will work in a shop environment repairing and performing preventative maintenance on Refuse and Recycling Trucks. Duties and Responsibilities include reviewing pre- and post-trip inspection sheets and performing necessary repairs to trucks and equipment, completing scheduled preventive maintenance service on all equipment, diagnosing malfunctions and repairing, rebuilding, and adjusting heavy-duty diesel-powered equipment. This involves dismantling, rebuilding, replacing, and adjusting engines, brakes, transmission drivelines, electrical, fuel, exhaust, cooling, suspension, and hydraulics in heavy-duty diesel trucks. Mechanics will repair equipment using acetylene and arc welding tools, write brief descriptions of repair work performed and parts used, and operate heavy equipment to ensure proper working order. They will also be required to obtain a Forklift operator certificate at the company's expense, follow company safety procedures, attend shop safety meetings, and assist in inspecting the truck parking area and cleaning up spilled material. On rare occasions, a Mechanic may be asked to respond to an off-site location for cleanups or repair issues regarding fleet vehicles. All other maintenance duties as may be assigned.
