About The Position

Prepare students for gainful employment in various positions in the diesel technology industry. Instruct the students in the proper use of hand tools used in the repair of diesel engines, electrical systems, fuel systems, and suspension/brakes. Teach students how to operate equipment used in the diagnosis and repair of diesel technology. As many of the duties will be supervising groups of students without benefit of additional help or administrative supervision, the job requires significant self-discipline, internal motivation, and sound judgment.

Requirements

  • Two years continuous job experience beyond apprenticeship training in the diesel technology industry.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and good driving record.
  • Skill and ability to convey the knowledge to students in an effective manner.
  • Ability to use College-identified computer hardware and software and other technology as provided.
  • Ability to represent and promote the welfare of the College as required.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and constructively with others.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with varied audiences.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching trouble-shooting and repair of fuel systems, tune-up, electrical system, safety rules, etc. on the diesel engine.
  • Provide instruction in customer relations.
  • Maintain competency-based diesel technology curriculum.
  • Recruit students and market the program.
  • Develop student knowledge and awareness as to the importance of industrial safety, punctuality, personal cleanliness, work ethic, and communication skills.
  • Assist with employment placement of graduates.
  • Oversee safe and orderly classrooms.
  • Supervise class and shop organization.
  • Ensure that shop is clean and meets all safety regulations.
  • Ensure student achievement for all student groups by monitoring the progress of individual students and student groups through the use of appropriate testing techniques and with the assistance of technology when appropriate.
  • Build positive school/community relations by supporting the mission of the College and facilitating cooperation between all persons in the school community.
  • Lead the students in developing constructive peer and student/instructor relations.
  • Oversee effective and efficient student performance.
  • Practice responsible fiscal, facility, and resource management.
  • Prepare and submit reports, grades, etc. on a timely basis in the manner designated by the College.
  • Model positive professional attributes.
  • Attend commencement ceremonies.
  • Other duties as assigned.
