About The Position

Veit is seeking a Diesel Technician to complete repairs and preventive maintenance on heavy duty trucks and trailers. This person will also assist in heavy equipment repairs. The role involves performing preventive maintenance, diagnosing engine mechanical and fuel systems issues, and utilizing various tools and computer systems for diagnostics and repair. The technician will also be responsible for repairing electrical systems, fabricating and repairing equipment using welding, and performing technician work on heavy equipment. Maintaining a clean and safe shop environment and communicating effectively with supervisors are also key aspects of the role.

Requirements

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and working knowledge of heavy-duty truck components.
  • Experience using diagnostic software and welding experience.
  • Ability to adhere to all safety rules, policies, and regulations, and the ability to maintain a safe work environment.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines with changing priorities and situations.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate with coworkers and management, verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work independently, assuring repair decisions are made utilizing appropriate experience and tasks are completed and in a timely manner.
  • Must be willing to join the union. (Operating Engineers, Local 139)
  • Valid Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and motor vehicle record requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Performs preventive maintenance to trucks and trailers.
  • Diagnoses engine mechanical and fuel systems issues on trucks including engines, drive train components, hydraulic systems, air, and electric systems.
  • Uses different tools, such as engine lathes, boring machines, hand tools, and precision measuring instruments.
  • Utilizes computer systems to diagnose issues with electronic engines on trucks.
  • Utilizes tools for repair and maintenance of hydraulic systems.
  • Repairs 12-volt D.C. electrical systems on trucks.
  • Fabricates and repairs equipment using welding equipment.
  • Perform technician work on heavy equipment.
  • Involved with maintaining a clean and safe shop environment.
  • Keeps supervisor informed of known actions, written or verbal, which may affect the ability to successfully perform assignments or adversely affect Company operations.
  • Other projects or duties as assigned by management.
