Diesel Technician

Gordon Food Service•Imperial, PA

About The Position

Gordon Food Service is hiring a Fleet Technician to repair and maintain heavy tractors, trailers, refrigeration units, and converter dolly units in its private, company-owned fleet. Fleet technicians may be hired at the Apprentice or Skilled level. Apprentice technicians are beginning a career in heavy vehicle maintenance and repair and need direct supervision and training for basic diagnosis and repairs. Skilled technicians need less supervision for typical GFS diagnoses and repairs, which may be reviewed or inspected by a supervisor or mentoring Master technician. The company expects Apprentice technicians to progress to Skilled and Skilled technicians to progress to Certified; there is no requirement to advance beyond Certified. The position is based in one of Gordon Food Service’s fleet shops. The posting does not provide a specific location or work schedule. The role involves inspecting, maintaining, and repairing diesel and gas engines, refrigeration units, and related systems and components on heavy-duty tractors and trailers. Technicians conduct diagnostic testing, daily inspections, and preventative maintenance; respond to driver repair write-ups and road calls; and help maintain shop equipment and a clean, safe work environment. The role may also require driving company vehicles, moving equipment around the shop, and transporting technicians or meeting them at vendors or other garages. Gordon Food Service describes its fleet as operating across 11 U.S. shops and maintaining more than 3,000 tractors and trailers. The posting lists benefits including affordable benefits plans starting on day one, weekly pay, wellness reimbursement, profit sharing, a 401(k) with company match, and emergency child and elder care. It also notes that 95% of leadership is hired from within the company.
