The Diesel Shop Manager is responsible for maximizing the efficiency of the maintenance workforce and ensuring cost-effective utilization of the maintenance facility. This role involves overseeing assigned maintenance shop(s) to ensure they are appropriately staffed, operating within budget constraints, and meeting all safety requirements. The manager will also ensure the shop building and yard are equipped with necessary tools and safety equipment, and that employees have completed required safety training and certifications. A key aspect of this role is ensuring compliance with all government regulations (state and federal E.P.A. OSHA) and leading the maintenance shop with daily supervision of shop supervisors/lead persons/shop employees. The manager will monitor purchases, make corrective actions for non-compliance with company policies, and determine the best solutions for equipment repair decisions. This role also includes leading accident estimates and bids for outsourced equipment, negotiating with local vendors for various supplies and services, and ensuring customer locations have scheduled maintenance for tire inflation and safety checks. The manager will lead customer site trailer maintenance, provide feedback on customer site programs, and interact with all departments to measure maintenance performance, making corrective action recommendations. Participation in field maintenance cost reduction programs and reviews of SOP programs and policies are also expected, along with proactively assisting others in achieving organizational objectives.
