About The Position

This role involves overseeing daily shop operations, providing advanced diagnostics and technical expertise, ensuring quality control, supporting and developing technicians, coordinating with service advisors and the parts department, maintaining safety and compliance, performing advanced repairs, supporting documentation standards, and maintaining high professional standards and team leadership. The position requires the ability to perform physically demanding tasks and keep pace with rapidly changing technology.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Advanced diagnostic skills with proficiency in using electronic diagnostic tools and manufacturer software.
  • Strong ability to interpret complex wiring diagrams, technical bulletins, and repair manuals.
  • Ability to work independently and provide technical leadership to others.
  • Must meet the physical demands of the job, including lifting heavy parts and working in confined spaces.
  • Flexibility to work overtime, weekends, or on-call as required.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of advanced vocational, technical, or trade school training in automotive, diesel, or heavy equipment technology preferred.
  • Minimum of 2-5 years of progressive hands-on experience in vehicle diagnostics, maintenance, and complex repairs in a dealership, commercial fleet, or heavy-duty service environment preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience mentoring or training junior technicians is preferred.
  • Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Master Technician certification or equivalent preferred.
  • OEM-specific certifications (e.g., Diesel Engines) preferred.
  • Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or ability to obtain one is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily shop operations and workflow, including assessing workload, assigning jobs, and monitoring repair progress.
  • Provide advanced diagnostics and technical expertise on difficult or escalated repairs, verifying conclusions of other technicians.
  • Ensure quality control and repair accuracy by conducting final inspections and verifying work meets standards.
  • Support and develop technicians through mentoring, training, and providing constructive feedback.
  • Coordinate with service advisors and the parts department regarding repair status, parts, and estimate creation.
  • Maintain safety, cleanliness, and regulatory compliance by enforcing safe work practices and conducting inspections.
  • Perform advanced and complex repairs, overhauls, and diagnostic procedures.
  • Support documentation and communication standards by reviewing and validating technician repair documentation.
  • Maintain high professional standards and team leadership by modeling professionalism and supporting a positive workplace culture.
  • Meet physical and technical requirements of the role, including performing physically demanding tasks and keeping pace with technology.
