About The Position

Bob Clapper Automotive, Inc. is seeking a Diesel/Medium Duty Truck Service Technician for their Janesville, WI location. This role involves repairing and maintaining medium & light duty GM trucks, Isuzu trucks, and some heavy-duty commercial trucks, both gasoline and diesel, according to dealership and factory specifications. The company is a well-respected GM dealership in southern Wisconsin, known for its sales and service. Technicians provide maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on all makes and models of light and medium duty vehicles, with a specialization in diesel equipment. The position offers exposure to a variety of equipment and continuous work. Technicians receive ongoing training to stay current with evolving truck technology and ensure customer satisfaction.

Requirements

  • Valid Driver’s License, maintain insurability through our insurance carrier
  • Must have a 2- year technical degree or higher education and 2 years in a related job field.
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions and information
  • Must have knowledge of and experience working on a variety of vehicle applications
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Computer knowledge
  • Must have basic mathematical skills (must be able to add, subtract, and work with fractions and percentages
  • Must have own tools and tool box

Responsibilities

  • Communicate with Service Advisor to gain knowledge of job quoted repair time
  • Performs work as outlined on repair order with efficiency and accuracy, in accordance with dealership and factory standards
  • Diagnoses cause of any malfunction and performs repair effectively
  • Communicates with Parts Department to obtain needed parts
  • Saves and tags parts of the job if under warranty or if requested by the customer
  • Communicates with service advisor immediately if additional work is needed, if work outlined is not needed, or if repairs cannot be completed within the promised time
  • Documents all work performed on the repair order and electronically time stamps each job repair line
  • Road tests vehicle when required
  • Participates in manufacturer sponsored training programs, schools, and events
  • Keeps abreast of manufacturer technical bulletins
  • Supervises/assists work of any apprentice technicians as assigned
  • Reports machinery/tool defects or malfunctions to Supervisor
  • Ensures that vehicle is kept clean. Notifies Service Advisor or Supervisor immediately of anything that has happened to change the appearance or condition of the vehicle
  • Maintain Customer Satisfaction Index rating at least comparable to that of the manufacturer, zone or branch average
  • Keeps shop area neat and clean
  • Maintains and is accountable for all dealership owned tools and manuals. Returns them to the proper place and in the same condition as when they were received
  • Operates all tools and equipment in a safe manner and follows safe work practices
