About The Position

Valley Metro is seeking a skilled Diesel Mechanic to join their team in Mesa, AZ. This position requires the ability to work any shift, 5 days a week, 8 hours per shift. The role involves detecting, diagnosing, and repairing complex issues on coaches, performing both in-house and road call repairs, and utilizing computer diagnostic equipment. Responsibilities also include performing preventative maintenance inspections and corrective maintenance, ensuring coaches are in proper working order through testing and road-driving tests. Requirements

One (1) year progressive heavy equipment maintenance required.
Understanding of all systems onboard the fleet transportation vehicles: Air Conditioning, Brakes, Engine, Transmission, Suspension and Steering, Electrical, Fuel, Lubrication, and Differentials.
Understanding the A-B-Cs of Preventive Maintenance Procedures.
Knowledge and use of proper safety equipment at all times.
High School diploma or GED.
Driver’s license required.
Experience with diagnostic computer equipment required.
Must have a basic understanding of the design, adjustment, overhaul of medium to heavy duty braking systems.
Must be able to work amid constant interruptions, have ability to prioritize and be detail oriented.
Must be able to perform physical activities including working on top of coaches and lifting up to seventy-five (75) pounds.
Must be flexible and work in a 24/7 environment.
Must be able to obtain an AZ Commercial Driver’s License.
Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test.

Responsibilities

Detect, diagnose and repair coaches concentrating on major complicated / complex problems including but not limited to; ADA equipment, air conditioning, brakes, chassis, cooling system, engine, interior/exterior lighting, gauges and controls, safety equipment, fire suppression system, sensitive edges, tires, and transmissions.
Perform both in-house and road call coach repairs using various hand, power, pneumatic and precision tools.
Perform upgrades and/or modifications on coach systems and equipment per manufacturers recommendations or client requests.
Utilize computer diagnostic equipment to include but not limited to; Cummins Insite, Allison prognostics, complex electrical schematics; ladder logic diagrams, VANSCO and DINEX coach control systems to diagnose troubleshoot coach electrical functions.
Research and evaluate coach problems, providing comprehensive analysis to management in both written and oral format.
Assist Foreman to track trends, parts usage and costs utilizing work orders, preventative maintenance sheets, road calls and experience.
Test coaches for proper working order including road-driving tests.
Fill out work orders specifying parts and labor.
Perform preventative maintenance inspections on all types of coaches following specific check lists.
Inspect and verify problems on coaches using various diagnostic equipment.
Clean, repair, and replace coach equipment as required.
Test coaches for proper working order including road driving tests.
Utilize computer diagnostic equipment to include but not limited to; Cummins Insite, Allison prognostics, complex electrical schematics; ladder logic diagrams, VANSCO and DINEX coach control systems to diagnose troubleshoot intermediate level difficulty coach electrical functions.
