About The Position

This role involves performing a wide range of diagnostic and repair tasks on diesel vehicles. The Diesel Mechanic will be responsible for examining vehicles, providing repair estimates, and executing necessary repairs. Key duties include working on brake systems, fuel, ignition, and emissions control systems, as well as engine tuning and air conditioning repair. The position also requires the ability to diagnose and repair transmissions, air systems, electrical systems, and perform internal engine work. The mechanic will work with minimal supervision and collaborate effectively with colleagues.

Requirements

  • Some training in computer diagnostics.
  • Ability to use a laptop, volt meter, and read wiring diagrams with troubleshooting charts.
  • Ability to work on Cat, Cummins, and Detroit engines.
  • Ability to diagnose, remove, and replace worn parts on complete trucks such as u-joints, kingpins, tie rod ends, drag links, and suspension parts.
  • Ability to diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair manual and auto-shift transmissions and replace and adjust clutches.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair A/C systems as needed.
  • Ability to troubleshoot air systems, retrieve ABS codes, repair, remove, and replace brakes, drums, and s-cams as needed.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair electrical systems such as wiring and lighting.
  • Ability to adjust valves in engines and perform internal work in engines.
  • Ability to work on more than one task at a time.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to work effectively with fellow employees.
  • Ability to perform repetitive work.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Regular predictable attendance.

Responsibilities

  • Examine vehicles and compile estimates of repair, securing approval to perform repairs.
  • Repair, overhaul, or adjust automobile brake systems.
  • Troubleshoot fuel, ignition, and emissions control systems, using electronic testing equipment.
  • Repair or replace defective ball joint suspensions, brake shoes, or wheel bearings.
  • Inspect and test vehicles for damage and record findings for necessary repairs.
  • Test electronic computer components in automobiles to ensure proper operation.
  • Tune automobile engines to ensure proper and efficient functioning.
  • Install or repair air conditioners and service components, such as compressors, condensers, and controls.
  • Repair, replace, or adjust defective fuel injectors, carburetor parts, and gasoline filters.
  • Remove and replace defective mufflers and tailpipes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
