About The Position

Interstate Waste Services is hiring an experienced Class A, B, or C Diesel Mechanic in Shelton, Connecticut. The role inspects, diagnoses, and repairs electrical, hydraulic, suspension, brake, and air systems on vehicles and equipment, including diesel heavy trucks and engines. It also includes preventive maintenance inspections, troubleshooting, and rebuilding major components. The mechanic is expected to diagnose issues accurately and repair or replace components effectively. The position is scheduled Monday through Friday on the second shift, from 11:00 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. The posted hourly pay ranges vary by mechanic classification: Class A, $35–$52; Class B, $25–$35; and Class C, $20–$30. The job description also lists an overall salary range of $25–$52 per hour.

Requirements

3–5+ years of experience as a Class A or B mechanic.
Computer diagnostic experience is required.
Knowledge of safety procedures and practices.

Nice To Haves

Prior experience in the waste management industry or with a heavy equipment/yellow iron dealership is a plus.
Trade school or similar training is a plus.

Responsibilities

Perform work in accordance with established safety procedures.
Complete required paperwork using fleet maintenance software, including documenting vehicle repairs, parts usage, and repair times.
Assist in repairing and adjusting equipment.
Wash vehicles and equipment.
Conduct safety checks on vehicles.
Assist with service calls for breakdowns.
Perform other maintenance-related work as required.
Maintain a clean and safe work area in compliance with Corporate and OSHA standards.
Inspect, diagnose, and repair vehicle and equipment systems, including electrical, hydraulic, suspension, brake, and air systems.
Perform preventive maintenance inspections, troubleshoot problems, and repair or rebuild major components.
