About The Position

This position is for a Diesel Mechanic at a stable and growing organization. The role involves performing maintenance services to meet established quality and volume standards. Mechanics will be responsible for repairing and rebuilding various components on trailers, performing preventative maintenance, and ensuring a high level of welding and metal fabrication skills. The job also includes performing service calls, washing and fueling equipment, road testing vehicles, and maintaining a positive attitude while assisting junior technicians. A key aspect of the role is contributing to the care and upkeep of the shop, grounds, equipment, and tools, while maintaining a clean and safe environment compliant with OSHA and company standards. Proficiency in using the EMS computer system for recording work and labor is required, as is collaboration with the Parts Department to ensure adequate stock levels. Compliance with EPA, DOT, and company safety regulations is mandatory. The position may require a CDL for road testing vehicles.

Requirements

  • Possess a valid Driver's License
  • Basic math skills
  • Fluent in English
  • Legally eligible to work in the United States
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Able to pass a drug screen

Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance service in which the volume and quality of work is within the acceptably measured standards for Dayton Freight Lines.
  • Repair and rebuild components on 48ft. and 53ft. dry van trailers, including suspension and running gear components, landing gear assembly and components, wheel components and tires, brake and air components, electrical, lighting and wiring components, rear frame and door components, side, nose and roof components, and interior and floor components.
  • Thoroughly perform Preventative Maintenance inspections and repairs.
  • Maintain a high level of welding and metal fabrication skills.
  • Perform service calls.
  • Wash and fuel equipment when necessary.
  • Road test vehicles to ensure quality repair services were performed (dependent upon having a CDL).
  • Maintain a consistently positive attitude, interacting courteously and professionally with fellow employees.
  • Pro-actively assist, guide and direct junior technicians.
  • Be a leading participant in the care and upkeep of the shop, the grounds and all equipment and tools.
  • Maintain a clean, safe environment that complies to OSHA and company standards.
  • Proficiently record all work and labor on a computer in the EMS system.
  • Work with the Parts Department to assure that all necessary materials, parts, service and shop supplies are maintained at proper quantity levels.
  • Work in compliance to EPA regulations as well as DOT and company safety requirements.
  • Perform other maintenance duties or assignments when necessary.
