Diesel Mechanic
About The Position
The primary responsibilities of the Mechanic include performing diagnostic testing to find faults, analyze results, repair/replace engines, steering, transmissions, braking, lighting and other related components/systems. The job operates within a fast-paced environment and may require travel for work and training. The role involves exposure to moving mechanical parts, vehicles, heavy construction equipment, toxic or caustic chemicals, and varying weather conditions. Noise levels can be moderate to high, occasionally requiring personal hearing protection. The employee must be able to work through stressful situations while maintaining professionalism and composure. Local travel is required.
Requirements
- Knowledge of diagnostic testing on vehicles and engines
- Aptitude for mathematics and science
- Advanced knowledge of diesel engine components
- Proficiency with maintenance and repair tools
- Highly organized and able to multitask
- Attention to detail
- Proficient computer skills
- Ability to adapt and learn new technology
- Must have and maintain a Class A CDL with Tank endorsement with clean record
Nice To Haves
- Certified Diesel Tech preferred
- A/C Certified preferred
- DOT Air Brakes Certified preferred
- Electrical (wiring) knowledge preferred
- CNG knowledge preferred
- 3+ years of experience as a mechanic with emphasis on diesel engines and/or commercial motor vehicles preferred
Responsibilities
- Analyze/troubleshoot and repair commercial motor vehicles and fleet vehicles
- Perform preventative maintenance on commercial motor vehicles and fleet vehicles
- Maintain parts and inventory for company fleet and equipment
- Maintain detailed service records for all vehicles worked on
- Test drive vehicles to gauge performance
- Adhere to an inspection procedure checklist (Annual DOT Inspection) on commercial motor vehicles
- Ensure cleanliness of shop
- Regular attendance and physical presence at work is an essential function of this position
- This job may require additional duties not listed above and the employee may be asked to perform those duties to meet business needs.
- Travel may be required based on work and training schedules
Benefits
- The base salary range for this position, which is dependent upon experience, qualifications and skills, is estimated to be $20 to $32 per hour.
