About The Position

CAD Railway Industries is an ambitious Quebec-based company that has been in operation for over 60 years. We specialize in the repair, conversion, and refurbishment of rolling railway equipment (various types of wagons and locomotives) with workshops and offices in Montreal (Lachine area) and Alberta (under the Caltrax banner). Over the years, our mission has evolved to become a responsible company focused on repairing and extending the lifespan of equipment entrusted to us by our clients. In many cases, we modernize these assets, essentially giving them a second life. Our teams design equipment that meets the needs of both freight and passenger clients.

Requirements

  • Hold a DEP in industrial/diesel mechanics or heavy vehicle mechanics
  • Have 2 years of professional experience
  • Comfortable communicating in French or English
  • Able to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Manual skills in mechanics and comfortable using various power tools
  • Able to read blueprints and perform basic calculations
  • Willing to learn and develop new skills
  • Able to read and understand written English, due to procedures and terminology in the railway industry
  • Willing to work in challenging conditions: heat and cold, noise, dust, odors, confined spaces and/or at heights
  • Flexible regarding tasks to be performed
  • Capable of standing for long periods and lifting moderately heavy loads

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working on locomotives (an asset)
  • Experience using precision instruments (micrometer, caliper, etc.) (an asset)

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, overhaul, and replace components, including cleaning and adjusting parts on customer locomotives, in accordance with company procedures
  • Diagnose malfunctions in diesel locomotives and perform the necessary repairs
  • Repair various types and models of locomotives, including GE, EMD, ALCO, etc.
  • Recondition engine components, bogies, cabs, or any other parts of a locomotive
  • Operate forklifts, hoists, and overhead cranes
  • Complete required documentation during work and record details in the appropriate forms according to established procedures
  • Perform precision adjustments on diesel engines
  • Test locomotives
