About The Position

The Mechanic is responsible for the proper repair, maintenance, and operational readiness of all company vehicles and equipment across fleet and field operations. This position diagnoses mechanical failures, performs corrective and preventive maintenance, and ensures that all assigned equipment meets company safety and performance standards. The Mechanic works in both shop and field environments, coordinating with management and support personnel to minimize equipment downtime and maintain operational continuity. This role contributes directly to the safety, regulatory compliance, and productivity of company operations.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience maintaining and repairing diesel engines
  • Valid driver's license
  • Proficiency in written and verbal communication
  • Basic mathematical skills applicable to measurements, parts quantities, and repair documentation.
  • Basic computer knowledge with the ability to learn and operate iPad, iPhone, and company software applications

Responsibilities

  • Maintains, inspects, and repairs a broad range of company assets including diesel-powered trucks, tractor-trailers, pickup trucks, heavy equipment, concrete mixers, hydraulic systems, air compressors, welding equipment, and other stationary and mounted equipment to established company standards.
  • Diagnoses mechanical failures by recognizing failure symptoms, performing systematic troubleshooting, disassembling affected components, completing necessary repairs or replacements, reassembling systems, and conducting post-repair testing to confirm proper operation.
  • Anticipates and identifies potential equipment problems before failure occurs, initiates or recommends necessary preventive repair work, and coordinates scheduling of that work with the Manager and fellow mechanics.
  • Coordinates with the Manager to ensure that required parts, materials, and supplies are available and on hand prior to commencing scheduled or emergency repair work.
  • Completes all required documentation accurately and in a timely manner, including work orders, inspection reports, parts usage records, and any other administrative paperwork associated with shop operations.
  • Operates all vehicles and equipment in a safe and responsible manner at all times, consistently wears required personal protective equipment, adheres to all company and regulatory safety guidelines, and promptly notifies the Manager or Safety department of any identified or potential safety concerns.
  • Complies with all applicable environmental regulations, disposes of chemicals, fluids, trash, and hazardous materials in designated areas, participates in recycling programs as required, and immediately reports any current or potential environmental issues to the Manager.
  • Conducts all required vehicle and equipment inspections on established schedules, documenting findings and initiating corrective action as appropriate to maintain fleet compliance and operational readiness.
  • Maintains the shop area, all tools, shop vehicles, and equipment in a neat, clean, and serviceable condition; performs end-of-shift cleanup of the work area; and ensures the security of all company tools and equipment at all times, reporting any discrepancies or concerns to the Manager.
  • Drives company shop vehicles to plant sites, remote locations, and road-call situations to perform on-site diagnostics and repairs on disabled equipment, and operates repaired equipment as necessary to verify functionality and facilitate its return to service.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned by management in support of departmental and organizational operational needs.
