Diesel Mechanic/Technician
About The Position
Swift Transportation is hiring a Diesel Mechanic/Technician to help maintain its company-owned fleet. The position is located at 12164 Tamiami Trail, Ponta Gorda, FL 33955, and is scheduled Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Pay is $25–$34 per hour, with overtime rates of $37.50–$45 when available. The technician performs preventive maintenance, inspections, troubleshooting, diagnostics, and repairs on tractors, trailers, refrigerated units, and support equipment. The role includes hands-on OEM training with manufacturers such as Freightliner, International, Volvo, Cummins, and Detroit, as well as ongoing web-based and hands-on shop training and opportunities for career advancement.
Requirements
- High school education or a combination of training and experience is required.
- A driver's license is required.
- Demonstrated or proven superior customer service skills.
- Ability to read and understand repair manuals and complete or fill out tags and repair orders.
- Ability to use and learn diagnostic software for tractors and trailers.
- Computer skills.
- Knowledge of vehicle systems and basic vehicle maintenance is preferred.

Responsibilities
- Complete quality preventive maintenance inspections and repairs on company-owned tractors, trailers, refrigerated units, and support equipment.
- Perform preventive maintenance according to applicable OEM, DOT, Swift, and other appropriate specifications.
- Inspect, analyze, troubleshoot, diagnose, and perform minor or complex repairs on equipment.
- Disassemble, repair, and reassemble heavy truck and trailer components.
- Perform tire maintenance, including repairs, failure analysis, coding, and identification.
