Diesel Mechanic/Technician
About The Position
Swift is hiring a Diesel Mechanic/Technician to maintain and repair company-owned fleet equipment, including tractors, trailers, refrigerated units, and support equipment. The role performs preventative maintenance to applicable OEM, DOT, and company specifications, as well as inspections, troubleshooting, diagnostics, and repairs ranging from minor to complex. The mechanic also works on heavy truck and trailer components and performs tire maintenance. The company describes a team environment supported by experienced technicians, leaders, and trainers, with hands-on OEM training from manufacturers including Freightliner, International, Volvo, Cummins, and Detroit. Ongoing training and opportunities for growth and career advancement are available. The position is at 12164 Tamiami Trail, Ponta Gorda, Florida 33955, with a Monday–Friday schedule from 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Pay is $25–$34 per hour, with overtime rates of $37.50–$45 when available.
Requirements
- High school education or a combination of training and/or experience is required.
- A driver's license is required.
- Demonstrated or proven superior customer service skills.
- Ability to read and understand repair manuals and complete or fill out tags and repair orders.
- Ability to use and learn diagnostic software used on tractors and trailers.
- Computer skills.
- Knowledge of vehicle systems and basic vehicle maintenance is preferred.

Responsibilities
- Complete quality preventative maintenance inspections and repairs on company-owned tractors, trailers, refrigerated units, and support equipment.
- Perform preventative maintenance on equipment to applicable OEM, DOT, company, and other specifications.
- Inspect, analyze, troubleshoot, diagnose, and perform minor and/or complex repairs on equipment.
- Disassemble, repair, and reassemble heavy truck and trailer components.
- Perform tire maintenance, including repairs, failure analysis, coding, and identification.
