About The Position

The Diesel Mechanic is responsible for performing basic preventative maintenance on heavy machinery and equipment, and assists other members of the Maintenance Garage in various machine/rolling stock repairs. This role involves performing regular, preventative maintenance on all machinery, equipment, tools, and building, and assisting in the repair of diesel equipment, infeed/outfeed systems, and forklifts in accordance with diagrams, operating manuals, and manufacturer specifications. The position also includes ordering supplies and parts, maintaining records of repair and maintenance activities, and adhering to safety rules and procedures. A clean and organized work area is expected, along with participation in safety, CI, and other programs and meetings. If assigned to the Treating Department, duties will include hazardous waste and hazardous material handling procedures and practices. Various reports are also prepared as required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in diesel repair and maintenance
  • Working knowledge of electrical, hydraulic, and control technology, and welding
  • Working knowledge of safe equipment practices and applicable laws, rules, and regulations
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of hazardous waste and hazardous material handling procedures and practices
  • Must be at least 18 years of age

Responsibilities

  • Performs regular, preventative maintenance on all machinery, equipment, tools, and building

  • Orders supplies and parts as required
  • Performs preventive maintenance as scheduled
  • Maintains records of repair and maintenance activities
  • Performs duties consistent with established safety rules and procedures
  • Maintains a clean and organized work area
  • Participates in safety, CI, and other programs and meetings
  • If assigned to Treating Department, performs duties consistent with hazardous waste and hazardous material handling procedures and practices
  • Prepares various reports as required
  • Performs other duties as required
