About The Position

The Industrial Power Systems Division has an exciting opportunity for a Repair Technician III position in our Internal Quality Index (IQI) team. As a repair technician, you will perform repairs on Caterpillar diesel engines, assist in determining a cause area, and report information to the appropriate departments. You will lead root cause investigations on diesel engine assembly quality concerns, developing and implementing long-term corrective actions that improve product quality, manufacturing efficiency, and process stability. You will at times perform non-routine and specialized tests on specific applications. In this role, you will be assigned to the Quality Planning Department.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience working on engines and/or generators, or mechanical repair
  • Advanced experience with tools and equipment used for engine repair such as wrenches, torque tools, and diagnostic equipment
  • Advanced understanding of engine components such as pistons, cooling systems, and an ability to perform basic repairs like oil changes and filter replacements
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical specifications
  • Strong customer service, communication, and multi-tasking skills
  • Ability to effectively document and present findings to key stakeholders
  • Ability to provide leadership, coaching and mentoring to team members
  • Initiative and ability to resolve issues either individually or through appropriate team guidance

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in diesel engine maintenance and diagnostics
  • Previous experience with advanced engine failure analysis
  • Previous experience training other team members

Responsibilities

  • Perform testing and repairs on diesel engines and generator sets to eliminate quality and material defects
  • Identify and document key metrics related to the assigned department or function
  • Collaborate with function owners to trouble shoot critical issues
  • Understand and interpret engineering prints
  • Understand and apply GD&T principles and gauging techniques
  • Run/coordinate design of experiments for critical internal issues
  • Support Manufacturing Engineering to improve Cpk and Ppk
  • Ability to perform root cause corrective actions to improve stop capability
  • Report on key metric and improvements
  • Ability to lead a small business team
  • Perform salvage recovery on engine and engine components
  • Review engine performance data to aid root cause analysis
  • Troubleshoot and repair detailed electrical components
  • Submit and assist with the resolution of CPS Continuous Improvement cards
  • Follow standard operating procedures and area specific work instructions
  • Be self-motivated, work independently when required
  • Assist in the development and training of other repair technicians
  • Perform all other duties as assigned
