Requirements
- Successful completion of the commonwealth’s Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration)
- Two years of journey level mechanic experience in the diagnosis and repair of automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment, which includes one year of experience in the diagnosis and repair of diesel vehicles or equipment
- An equivalent combination of experience and training
- Possession of an active Pennsylvania Class B Commercial Driver's License with the Air Brake Restriction (L) and Manual Transmission Restriction (E) removed, or equivalent
- Possession of an active Medical Examiner’s Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations on the first day of employment
- Pass the Department of Transportation’s New Mechanic Training course during the probationary period
- Possession of an active Pennsylvania Class 1, Class 4, or Class 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification during the probationary period
- Possession of an active Tank Vehicle Endorsement (N)
- Ability to perform essential job functions
Nice To Haves
- Employees may be required to obtain and maintain CDL endorsements and certifications necessary to operate specific pieces of equipment.
Responsibilities
- Perform repairs on vehicles and equipment including engines, brakes, electrical systems, and body components
- Carry out scheduled maintenance to keep machinery safe and reliable
- Complete official state safety and emissions inspections and prepare required paperwork
- Troubleshoot mechanical issues using tools and diagnostic equipment to identify needed repairs
- Service motorized hand tools and construction equipment to ensure proper function
- Maintain a clean work area, follow safety procedures, and report hazards or injuries promptly
