Requirements

  • Successful completion of the commonwealth’s Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration)
  • Two years of journey level mechanic experience in the diagnosis and repair of automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment, which includes one year of experience in the diagnosis and repair of diesel vehicles or equipment
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training
  • Must possess a valid Pennsylvania Class A or B Commercial Driver's License
  • Must possess a valid Pennsylvania Class 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification on the first day of employment
  • Must possess an active Medical Examiner’s Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations at the time of application
  • Must obtain an active certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in the operation of heavy trucks and loaders within the probationary period
  • Subject to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations
  • Must be able to perform essential job functions

Responsibilities

  • Perform repairs on vehicles and equipment including engines, brakes, transmissions, and electrical components
  • Complete scheduled service tasks to keep vehicles and equipment in safe working condition
  • Identify issues using tools and diagnostic equipment to decide proper repair methods
  • Carry out safety and emissions inspections and complete all required documentation
  • Maintain and service motorized hand tools and report missing or damaged parts
  • Follow safety procedures, observe hazards, and take steps to prevent injuries
