About The Position

Coordination of the operation of the assigned components of the Dialysis (Hemo & Peritoneal) Program including planning, implementing, monitoring, and improving the quality of services; overseeing the day-to-day operations; and maintaining fiscal accountability. This role involves performing dialysis (hemo & peritoneal), CRRT, emergency management, and bedside clinical care. It also includes participating in the evaluation of patients as potential dialysis candidates, preparing clinical equipment, and providing leadership for clinical issues related to patient and dialysis management. The position also involves coordinating the development and initiation of new advanced technologies, evaluating new equipment and supplies, and providing follow-up for the patient population through discharge. Presenting performance data reports, participating in meetings with the Director of Critical Care Services, Medical Directors, and staff, and investigating, planning, developing, and supporting opportunities or expansion of services are also key aspects. Establishing annual departmental goals and objectives, maintaining the dialysis patient database and statistics, and supporting Community Relations with media requirements are also part of the role. Planning and coordinating community events annually, identifying communication mechanisms for staff and physicians, and planning and conducting staff meetings are also responsibilities. Involving the Director Critical Care Services, Medical Directors, and staff in establishing practice standards and research projects, and facilitating communication between all members of the health care team are crucial. Managing equipment and supplies, assessing and meeting supply and equipment requirements, including managing inventory, and establishing and maintaining preventative and maintenance contracts for complex equipment are also key duties. Coordinating standardization of supplies with physicians, ensuring regular quality control and cleaning of equipment, and communicating with vendor representatives to stay abreast of new innovations are important. Establishing and ensuring tracking of maintenance and problem logs for all equipment, ensuring appropriate in-service with staff and physicians on new equipment and supplies, and ensuring equipment meets state and federal guidelines for safety and proper operation are also required. Providing training as needed to assure quality control is performed appropriately, developing innovative ways to utilize existing resources safely and effectively, and integrating and promoting department/service, professional practice, and hospital goals into practice are essential. Coaching staff on performance improvement through educational applications and developing goals annually to address specific department developmental needs of staff are also part of the role. Assuming a leadership role and acting as a "change agent" role model, promoting collaboration and sharing responsibility for conflict resolution, and providing written and/or verbal feedback for staff regarding evaluation of effectiveness are expected. Serving as a consultant to patient care provider staff, faculty, and students in handling specific care needs, and preparing and monitoring the operational and capital budget are also key responsibilities. Pursuing educational and leadership opportunities to enhance professional growth and clinical expertise, establishing professional goals annually, and periodically reviewing own goals and revising according to changing needs are expected. Attending professional development opportunities within the organization, remaining current in health care policies and practices, and remaining current in clinical and educational areas by reading professional journals and attending seminars and professional meetings are also required. Networking with other health care professionals and attending sponsored continuing education are also part of the role.

Requirements

  • Current license as a registered nurse in the State of Texas.
  • Graduation from an academic clinical program.
  • Minimum of two years' experience as dialysis specialist in a neonatal, cardiac and/or pediatric care setting required.
  • Must maintain current CPR, PALS, and/or ACLS.
