About The Position

This position is for a Fellowship Trained Diagnostic Radiologist at the Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, VA. The role involves providing diagnostic imaging interpretation and consultation within a specific fellowship-trained subspecialty. The department operates 24/7, and services may be required any day of the week, including nights, weekends, and holidays. The position also includes on-call duties, requiring off-site response for image interpretation via teleradiology or return to the hospital if necessary. A significant portion of the duties may involve academic instruction and teaching of Radiology residents and fellows, as the facility is a teaching hospital. The radiologist will utilize government information systems such as MHS Genesis and PACS.

Requirements

Possess fellowship training in Musculoskeletal Radiology, Abdominal/Body Imaging, Cardiothoracic Imaging, Breast/Women's Imaging, or Pediatric Radiology (with American Board of Radiology Certificate of Added Qualification in Pediatric Imaging).
Possess at least two (2) years of experience as a Fellowship Trained Diagnostic Radiologist within the preceding three (3) years.
Current Board Certification in Diagnostic Radiology through either the American Board of Radiology (ABR) or American Osteopathic Association (AOA).
Have documented experience practicing within a Diagnostic Radiology subspecialty consistent with fellowship training for at least two (2) years within the preceding three (3) years. Time spent completing fellowship training counts toward this experience requirement.

Responsibilities

Maintain productivity comparable to other Diagnostic Radiologists.
Participate in peer review and quality improvement activities.
Follow infection control and patient safety guidelines.
Respond appropriately during emergency situations.
Maintain accurate medical documentation.
Participate in annual mandatory military training.
Support Performance Improvement and Risk Management initiatives.
Provide instruction and clinical guidance to residents, fellows, corpsmen, and students.
Utilize MHS Genesis, PACS, and other Government information systems.
Attend departmental meetings and continuing education activities.
Maintain all required documentation in accordance with MTF policies.
Interpret routine and complex diagnostic imaging studies within the physician's fellowship-trained subspecialty.
Provide expert consultation in their fellowship specialty.
Participate in academic instruction, lectures, and teaching of Radiology residents and fellows for up to 40% of assigned duties.
Perform all duties consistent with fellowship expertise and current clinical privileges.
Prescribe and dispense medications as authorized by the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee (not typically required for this position).
