About The Position

Sentara Obici Hospital, located in Suffolk, Virginia, is currently hiring a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer for a PRN/Flexi, Rotating Shift. This role performs diagnostic ultrasound procedures in an ambulatory setting requiring independent judgment, under the direction of a qualified physician. The sonographer will be proficient in preliminary structural reporting and conduct general diagnostic ultrasound imaging studies of patients, within the scope of demonstrated competency. This includes scanning patients to demonstrate correct anatomy/pathology, operating sonography equipment and electronic radiology systems, preparing patient rooms, equipment, and medications, and maintaining adequate supply inventory. The sonographer will explain the examination and procedure to the patient, complete departmental documentation, and be competent in the use and logging of infection control equipment.

Requirements

  • Degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography, related field, or completion of a training program acceptable to the ARRT or ARDMS registry board (Required)
  • ARDMS or ARRT (Required)
  • BLS

Responsibilities

  • Performs diagnostic ultrasound procedures in ambulatory setting requiring independent judgment, under the direction of a qualified physician.
  • Proficient in preliminary structural reporting.
  • Conducts general diagnostic ultrasound imaging studies of patients, within scope of demonstrated competency under the direction of a qualified physician.
  • Scanning of patient for demonstration of correct anatomy/pathology.
  • Operation of sonography equipment.
  • Operation of the electronic radiology systems.
  • Preparation of patient room/equipment/medications.
  • Maintains adequate supply inventory.
  • Explains examination and procedure to patient.
  • Completes departmental documentation.
  • Competent in use and logging of infection control equipment.
