About The Position

The Diagnostic Sonographer is responsible for the independent operation of sonography equipment to create necessary images and obtain measurements. Individual must maintain a high degree of accuracy in positioning and scanning technique. Communicates with the patient and relays any pertinent information to the radiologist and documents on tracking sheet/chart. Communicates with the radiologist and understands and performs any necessary additional exams. Requirements

  • Graduate of a formal Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program that is accredited by the Commission Accreditation of Allied Health Education Program.
  • Active certification with ARDMS. Current compliance with CME requirements.
  • Ability to effectively communicate to patients the procedures and educate women about the role of regular mammography in preventative breast health.
  • Ability to read and write and comprehend medical terminology.
  • Ability to effectively communicate information on a one-on-one and small group basis to doctors, patients, and other employees.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed and sometimes involved written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Knowledge of database software and RIS/PACS software.

Responsibilities

  • Produces high quality ultrasound images and obtain appropriate measurements for each exam
  • Documents all applicable patient and procedure data consistently and correctly
  • Explains procedures adequately to patients to maximize patient comfort and cooperation
  • Appropriate monitoring during all phases of procedure with special care taken to insure patient emotional and physical well-being
  • Assist and/or chaperones radiologist when they are performing ultrasound exams
  • Assists radiologists during ultrasound biopsy procedures using appropriate sterile technique and universal precautions
  • Communicates patient information in a professional and courteous manner to patients and to referring physicians’ offices as required.
  • Maintains the ultrasound equipment for cleanliness and insures proper equipment maintenance and equipment safety
  • Maintains a good working relationship with Radiologists and other Center staff members
