About The Position

We are seeking a compassionate and skilled dietitian diabetes educator to provide diabetes self-management education with an emphasis on insulin pump therapy and continuous glucose monitoring (CGM). In collaboration with a multidisciplinary team, you will help patients optimize glycemic control and improve quality of life. The Diabetes Educator provides education for clients with diabetes of all ages according to the individualized needs of the client. This process involves a health and education assessment, development, implementation and evaluation of an education plan, taking into account psychosocial, economic, and language barriers. Duties are performed in a classroom or individual outpatient setting in collaboration with a team of RNs & RDs. Requirements

  • Washington Dietitian Certification, or Upon hire: Washington Nutritionist Certification
  • National CDR Registered Dietitian - Commission on Dietetic Registration
  • 3 years experience in treatment and education of diabetes within the last 2 years.
  • Experience with current adult learning theory in relation to diabetes education.
  • Experience with the clinical management of diabetes.

Nice To Haves

  • Formal coursework or credentials in principles of adult learning theory and patient-centered learning.
  • Experience with diverse ethnic groups.
  • CDCES (willing to train the right candidate, must complete within 26 months of hire).

Responsibilities

  • Provide pre-pump counseling, pump starts, troubleshooting, and training on advanced pump features.
  • Review and interpret pump and CGM data, collaborating with providers to adjust insulin therapy.
  • Assess learning needs and develop individualized education and treatment plans.
  • Teach carbohydrate counting, glucose monitoring, insulin administration, sick-day management, and self-care strategies.
  • Partner with physicians, nurse practitioners, dietitians, nursing staff, and medical assistants to deliver coordinated, patient-centered diabetes care.
  • Provide education for clients with diabetes of all ages according to the individualized needs of the client.
  • Perform health and education assessment, development, implementation and evaluation of an education plan, taking into account psychosocial, economic, and language barriers.
  • Accept professional development and community outreach as an integral part of professional practice.
