About The Position

Requirements

Current and valid state RN or RD License/Registered.
Current BLS (AHA) certificate upon hire and maintain current.
A minimum of three (3) year’s experience in an acute care hospital environment.
Excellent clinical, interpersonal and communication skills essential.
Team approach to patient care.
Working knowledge of computers and computer applications.

Nice To Haves

Certified Diabetes Educator certification.
If not a CDE, 15 hrs. of Continuing Education in Diabetes within 2 months of hire and 15 hours of Continuing Education every year until CDE obtained.
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Masters of Science in Nutrition preferred.

Responsibilities

Assist with the daily assessment of the needs of the in-patient and out-patient departments related to diabetes patient education.
Provide initial and on-going training of staff.
Coordinate, implement and evaluate specific diabetes education related to clinical nursing/staff functions.
Ensure that all patient care nursing staff is oriented to the diabetes standards of care and the nursing scope of practice at the Medical Center as well as the policy and procedures and medical equipment used in routine diabetes patient care.
Act as a facilitator for learning new skills as well as updating current skills related to diabetes.
Communicate with the Directors and Supervisors regarding diabetes educational needs.
Participate in planning the curriculum.
Demonstrate professional accountability in the acknowledgement of, and compliance with accepted standards of nursing care as well as a commitment to act within ethical principles and uses independent, dependent, and interdependent interventions to fulfill this responsibility.
