DFT Engineer, Principal/Manager

Qualcomm•Austin, TX
•$226,600 - $340,000

About The Position

Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. is hiring a DFT Engineer at the Principal/Manager level in its Engineering Group, DSP Architecture and Design organization. The role oversees architecture, design, verification, and performance analysis for Digital Signal Processor (DSP) development across Qualcomm Mobile, Machine Learning, Automotive, IoT, and other products. The position determines processor architecture, micro-architecture, logic design, verification, and performance and power characteristics. It applies high-performance microprocessor design concepts—including multi-core, multi-threaded, out-of-order, cache memory, high-speed ALU, and advanced low-power design—and evaluates the design process from instruction set architecture through implementation. Custom instruction sets are used to pursue industry-leading results in machine learning and modem. The role uses tools and techniques to evaluate design tradeoffs and verify correctness, including architectural simulators, digital design simulators and emulators, test generators, and design synthesis. This position works independently, supervises direct reports, and has significant influence over organizational decisions and the success of programs and projects. It guides technical teams, collaborates with leadership across teams, contributes to product and technology roadmaps, and has overall responsibility for budgets, schedules, and performance standards across multiple departments or functional areas.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field and 8+ years of relevant Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related work experience; or a master’s degree in one of these fields and 7+ years of relevant experience; or a Ph.D. in one of these fields and 6+ years of relevant experience.
  • 2+ years of experience with high-performance microprocessor design.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s or Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience with programming (e.g., C, C++, Python), computer architecture, or embedded systems.
  • 10+ years of experience in design verification methods.
  • 4+ years of experience working in a large matrixed organization.
  • 4+ years in a technical leadership role, with or without direct reports (applies only to positions with direct reports).
  • 3+ years of work experience in a role requiring interaction with senior leadership, such as Vice President level and above.

Responsibilities

  • Influence the organization by sharing a strategic vision and developing methodologies as a domain expert.
  • Direct and coordinate work across organizational teams to achieve corporate goals and develop complex blocks, features, architecture, plans, schedules, and tests that meet quality, design completeness, functionality, power, performance, and timing standards; recommend and drive improvements.
  • Lead teams in anticipating and identifying complex architecture and design problems, provide innovative recommendations, and consult and collaborate with other teams’ leadership to develop and execute design plans.
  • Guide teams in researching industry trends, competitors’ products, and advances in engineering fields related to DSP products and technology, including machine learning and modem, and share expertise across teams.
  • Use technical expertise to identify trends, define future solutions, and contribute to discussions about short- and long-term product and technology roadmaps.
  • Guide team members in developing clear technical documentation through written, verbal, and online communications; review documentation and provide feedback for varied audiences.
  • Supervise direct reports and administer budgets, schedules, and performance standards for multiple departments or functional areas.
  • Direct the resolution of complex problems with impact beyond the position’s own area and participate in developing corporate methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria.

Benefits

  • Competitive annual discretionary bonus program.
  • Opportunity for annual RSU grants (employees on sales-incentive plans are not eligible for the annual bonus).
  • Competitive benefits package designed to support employees at work, at home, and at play.
